bert switzer

...it usually can be assumed that compilations of drummers work are somewhat tired and tiring affairs unless its some primo primal free jazz attck then its a different throw of the dice, with that gear its more than listening involved, its full immersion...what this little biscuit thrash-sound gives this the beatnik seal of approval and makes this a must for heads who dig the lost sounds of the seven-ohs...the other tracks are top quality has that puts it into rarefied stratosphere of hep grooves is the desirous fact that bert was once a member of the destroyed, a misunderstood combo who operated out of boston on the right hand coast of uncle sams autocracy back in the later seventies...hated by almost one and all, banned from clubs and bottled for refusing to leave the stage after their half hour was up(opening for j.geils band so this is not as weird as it seems because their audience is 4 sided without a doubt)...anyhow a crew that get's this sort of reaction usually has something going for it and these cats kick up a storm of 77 style punk racket mixed with some hotcha stooges swill with a couple of stoner type moves, indicating a nice immersion of green going down...a real good 'taped in the basement' cassette screechingavant rock slam and some interesting jazz-funk(it don't last long for cats who got a down vibe on such bland-oh noise) and one track has some welding of sixties pop/seventies underground rock...a surprising package, well worth a spin or three...
