deep purple

...th' sounds o' th' underground were changin' by 68 'n many if not all combos had to ditch all R'n'B/club pop'n psych in favor o' a heavier sound informed in no small part by jimi...this wax has a few leftover freakbeat strains underneath this jimi heavy proto-keyboard-prog 'n some heavy lookin' guitar flashes...most purpleheads hardly acknowledge th' existance o' this platter 'n from their point o' lookin' at things, that maybe o.k but more open-eared cats will dig this for what it is, a somewhat awkward but good listen'n reminder o' those early post psych daze...

...recorded summer 68 theres still some R'n'B chug noticable though now its been stretched into protoprog bombast which was a pretty hep move for combos from th'early club-soul-pop idiom if'n they didn't get some horns'n get with th' jazzy end o' th' prog spectrum...a couple o' hungover psych fx crop up aswell showin' they didn't head off into th' unknown without an anchor o' yesterday...again theres no question, no hesitation in sayin' th' inevitable truth: purpleheads, line up to a uniform cat'n disown/blank it totally but again this second offerin' is a great reminder o' those far off hazy-daze...this reissue comes complete with th' radio show 'top o' th'pops' sessions to make this an even groovier slab than it may have been...
