avengers

...the first three tracks represent the avengers first single and for all intents and purposes this 7 incher is what their reputation is built on...arriving on the nascent frisco punk scene in '77 they blew the left over earth shoe hippys into yesterday with their incendiary performance...lyrics of self assertiveness and reliance showed they belong'd to no tribe old or new but were free thinkers on the dawn of tomorrow with something to say...there's a couple of cool 60's tunes to show they knew there was music before them, that the 'punk year zero' line was just pathetic fascism under a fake guise...scored an opening slot on what came to be th'sex pistols last show(lets not get hung up with reformations)and things were looking good but what has happened to most frisco combos down the years happened to them, they were overtaken by record co. shenanigans and the moment was lost, the hype known as 'new wave' took over in the public imagination and wallets and the avengers called it a day sometime in '79...vocalist/writer penelope houston carved out a workman like career as a folkie and knocked out some nice disks but they weren't a patch on the noise going down on this disk which is a pile up of the tracks they did manage to get out to a disinterested public...a proper nice blast of tremendous punkeroo racket, its been booted many times since its appearance back in the early '80s and the legend of the mighty avengers has survived and grown so much so they got together some years back to once again to rock the nation and show how its done...
...we are the one...

I chastized the 'no comments' fer this here download over at Sir Charlie Plamer...again, notathing is said to one of the finest ever. Another part of the problem is there was no real punk scene in San Fran at the time so they had a hard time just gettin' booked. They shoulda moved to LA...they would have been gods. Hey, I tried to get Sir Palmer to post Died For Your Sins but hasn't yet. I've had it fer years but your regular robbers might wanna hear it. Also, your storage probs might be solved by going to Mediafire, just fyi. You are one of the best...maybe THE BEST. I get the whole concept...the repeats might annoy some but it's deliberate in a way that gets this musick into the world...truly great stuff that only some have heard, most need to hear. Thanks for the Michael Yonkers, by the way. Had read about him several times but never heard it...VERY good stuff.

thanks for your comments and interest, the avangers certainly were one of the best at the time and this LP certainly does not dim their reputation amongst the cogniscent cats thirty years later...if you'd like to rip and send a link for 'Died For Your Sins' it'll get posted here with the credit to your good self...
